Jason’s European Kart Championship ended in disappointment in France (Salbris International Circuit) at the weekend after his engine failed to start first time in both of the main races.

Peterborough’s motorsport star Jason Parrott scored his first international podium in France on Sunday and has soared to third in the European KF1 Championship. Just six months ago it was feared that Jason wouldn’t have the funds to race in 2007 but now he is second in the championship only to Italian Marco Ardigo, one of the few men to beat Lewis Hamilton in a kart.

Peterborough kart racer Jason Parrott lived up to all predictions at Sunday?s opening rounds of the European Kart Championship with finishes of eighth and seventh in the points-scoring races, leaving him in fifth in the championship standings. The event, at Ugento in the heel of Italy, gave Jason the opportunity to show the top team bosses what he could do on limited financial resources and will help make his case for promotion to the ranks of professional kart racers.

Racing as a member of the privateer MGM Racing team on a Birel kart, Jason achieved his top ten finishes despite competing in only one other event since the World Championships in France last October and despite being the only English-speaking team-member.

The European Kart Championship kicks off this weekend at Ugento, in the heel of Italy, and Jason has posted two 7th fastest times against 50 other competitors, many of whom are well-funded or professional drivers. After the first days free practice Jason is making his mark on the new KF1 class on only the second time he has raced with the radically revised engine formula.
