Parrott ends European Kart Championship on a high
Jason Parrott made a major breakthrough at the final round of the European Kart Championship in Germany on Sunday, scoring two top ten positions in the two main races despite getting caught up in racing incidents in both races.
The venue, Ampfing near Munich, is one where Jason had limited experience and is known for being one of the most challenging on the International calendar. An uphill chicane presented some difficulties at first but by the warmup on Sunday morning Jason was on the pace thanks to perseverance and an on-form engine.
In the first final Jason started 10th on the grid in the wet race but was taken out by a former World Champion who should know better, sending him right to the back of the field. Undeterred, the 18-year-old came back through the field to 10th at the chequered flag.
Starting 10th again for the second final, he came through to 3rd by half-distance but was pushed right back down to 11th when the eventual winner bundled his way into the leading group. He recovered to finish 6th, one place behind Spalding driver Alexander Sims.
“I’m pretty happy with the weekend,” said Jason. “I do think I could have been 2nd or 3rd in the second race as I was fast enough but I could have been tougher. I’m now ranked 14th in Europe so that’s a huge boost for the last races of the season”.
Jason and his team now have just the final British Championship round at Rowrah in the Lake District to concentrate on before the World Championship in France at the end of September. He currently has a narrow lead in the British series so will hope to go to France on a high as the British Champion.
