Second place for Jason as PF International round rained off
Peterborough kart racer Jason Parrott came away from PF International in a strong position in the British Kart Championship, although heavy rain meant he didn’t get to race as much as he would have liked. PFi, in Lincolnshire, is Jason’s closest racetrack and was the venue for Round 3 of the six-event championship.
Jason qualified second on the grid for the two heats, just four hundredths of a second away from the pole time and knew he still had more pace to come, but the on-and-off rain throughout the two practice days meant that a good setup was hard to find. He finished 5th and 2nd in the two heat races, both of which were wet.
He dropped back to grid four going into the finals, and by now the track was starting to dry. Leaving the wet tyres on, Jason’s mechanic lowered the tyre pressures to adapt to the less slippery track but as luck would have it the rain started again once he was racing. He couldn’t keep up with championship leader Mark Litchfield (Derbyshire) to start with but by the end was catching him.
Disappointingly, the weather didn’t improve and the organisers abandoned the race meeting three races before the end. When this happens drivers are awarded double points from the race they did compete in, leaving Jason in a strong second place in the championship.
“I’m gutted that we didn’t go out in the rain,” said Jason. “I really think I could have won the second race after all the work we did this weekend, but I got two second places and the championship is really now between me and Mark.”
Riki Christodoulou (West Midlands), who started off the championship by scoring maximum points, snapped his chain in the final and is now out of the picture at the mid point in the season.
Jason’s next race will be Round 4 of the British Championship, at Larkhall in Scotland on 18th June.
